I'm Alex, one of Total Mortgages mortgage advisers.
With a business management degree (Waikato University), my background lies in accounting and marketing, and I've previously worked at one of the country's most-prominent accountancy partnerships.
Although I have a flair for numbers and business, I was fortunate in the early part of my career to have been mentored by some strong people within the accountancy firm: I gained a great deal of business acumen and knowledge along the way. Most importantly, however, was gaining an appreciation of the importance of dealing with people in a professional and empathetic manner.
You could say I have 'business in my blood', having grown up watching my father call on-site real estate auctions and run his own flourishing business. I've always admired my father's ability to build a wide network of relationships and problem-solve. I do feel I've inherited many of Dad's strengths and characteristics, and I strive to continually improve and develop on this.
I've also been lucky to learn and develop my career alongside Jordan Cameron, who's instilled in me a dedicated work ethic -- teaching me also to be thorough, reliable, and consistent in my communication.
My favourite part of this role is that no two days are the same; I get to meet and work with a diverse range of people, many of which inspire me and from which I learn a great deal. In all my dealings, I like to think there are opportunities to learn and grow because every client offers a unique situation, and they often present new avenues for me to add value.
Outside of the office, I love to unwind by spending time with my friends, family, and little dog (Bodie) -- running along Hamilton's beautiful city river paths or heading off to Mount Maunganui.
